Corinna named a must-see in Tasmania!

Travel website Experience Oz has selected the Corinna Wildnerness Experience to feature in its ‘Tasmania Bucket List’ – a collection of the top one hundred things to see and do in Tasmania.

Western Explorer Road re-opened

As of 8am, Friday 11 March 2016 the remaining sections of the Western Explorer have been re-opened to traffic.

Travel Alert: Western Explorer Road closed due to fire

Although we have been fortunate enough to remain open and unaffected by the recent bushfires this year, we would like to advise all guests that the Western Explorer Road is temporarily closed to traffic in order for firefighting operations to proceed.

Arcadia II History

The Arcadia II was built in 1939 by Charles McKay as a leisure cruiser for George Rometech, the owner of the Arcadia Hotel in Hobart.

The Pieman: The river that saved itself

At the time of all the controversy surrounding the damming of the Gordan River holes were also being drilled to dam the Pieman River. Whilst there was much public outcry and protesting about the Gordan, the Pieman River had very few voices in its corner.

Western Explorer Highway

The famous Western Explorer Highway, which joins the north and the southern ends of the Tarkine has recently been upgraded. A well kept secret, the road offers visitors to the north west of Tasmania the chance to drive to either from end of the 450,000 hectare Tarkine region without backtracking.

Upgrade of Huon Pine track

Using funds from the Commonwealth Government Tarkine Walks program, contractors have recently completed the upgrade of the Huon Pine walk at Corinna.

Nature in the raw at Corinna

Platypuses have been sighted in increasing numbers in the Whyte and Pieman Rivers. Sightings of whit breasted sea eagles continue on the Arcadia cruise to Pieman Head. At Corinna, there are Bennett’s wallabies in abundance, and many fine specimens of the superb blue wren.
