“The grand entry from the south into Corinna township by barge heralds your arrival into an oasis in the remote wilderness.”



The “Fatman” Barge allows vehicles to travel from north or south, across the Pieman River. It is the only cable driven vehicular barge remaining in Tasmania.


The barge operates between 9am and 7pm in the summer (daylight savings time) and 9am and 5pm in winter (outside daylight saving hours). It operates 7 days a week. There is no need to book for this service. Charges apply and can be viewed below.


The crossing takes about five minutes and the carrying capacity is 6.0 tonnes, with maximum vehicle measurements of 2.46m wheel base and 2.50m body width. The maximum combination wheel base is 9.0m and the minimum caravan under body clearance 0.2m. Please measure your vehicle/s to avoid disappointment.

Price applies per motorcycle or pedestrian who uses the service. This price also applies to bicycles, quad bikes and other moped style vehicles. All prices listed are in Australian dollars and include GST.



Standard Car/Ute/4WD

Price applies per car or 4WD that uses the service. This price also applies to Hiace vans and buses and any vehicle with a length under 4.0m. All prices listed are in Australian dollars and include GST.



Extended Vehicle/Caravan



$33.00



Price applies per extended vehicle that uses the service. This price also applies to towing trailers, boat trailers and large 4WD/small trucks. All prices listed are in Australian dollars and include GST.
